Introduction:
The past year of political and social unrest is a direct response, and challenge to the global financial crisis. The focus of this collection of work is on Scotland and the impact of the recession. The photographs raise questions about how to capture a movement, a frustration and a collapsing society.
The six photographic series document and explore, in different ways, issues such as unemployment, debt and inflation, the closure and bankruptcy of shops, businesses and homes and the people affected by this crisis.
This work highlights one of the key problems of the current economic climate though the physical traces and fluctuations to our surrounding environment and the consequences of those changes. The projects also emphasise the social and political issues of the recession and how to challenge and change the state, we as a nation and world are currently in.
There has been mass protest, occupation and resistance to the governments and banks who have made the economic situation what it is. These projects aim to raise awareness and highlight the serious implications for our country, our people, our past identity, present situation and worrying future as a nation.

This project is exploring the subject of economic downturn, focusing on industrial spaces that are in their current state empty. Through exploring the Fountainbridge are of Edinburgh the project documents the many For Sale and To Let signs, highlighting the problems of the economic crisis.
